Arthur H. Essman

Arthur Harry "Ben" Essman of Bergenfield on March 21, 2009 passed peacefully at home. Beloved husband for 59 years of Rita (nee Hopkins). Loving father of Arthur and Toni Essman, Thomas and Kathleen Essman, Diane and Anthony Ezzo, Sharon and Bryan Marcella, Jeanne Essman and Joanne and Albert Riddle. Grandfather of 9 and great grandfather of 2. Brother­ in law of Virginia Armstrong and Mary and Arthur La Valle. A radio man in the Rainbow Division of the US Army in World War II serving in Europe, he retired as an Officer of the Bowery Savings Bank and then worked at United Jersey Bank. A parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church and member of The Golden Age Club, he coached basketball with the Bergenfield Town League and baseball with PAL. The funeral will leave Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave. Bergenfield on Wednesday at 9:30AM for the Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Bergenfield at 10AM. Interment Geo. Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Visiting Monday 7-9 and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Englewood Hospital, 75 Demarest Ave. Englewood, NJ 07631.
