Arthur Mayer, Jr

Mayer, Arthur Jr., on March 18, 2009 of Forked River formerly of Bergenfield. Born on February 20, 1940 to Edith and Arthur Mayer, Sr., he graduated from Bergenfield High School in 1958 and the Newark School of Engineering in 1980. For 37 years he was a Principal Right-of-Way Agent and Engineer for Bell Atlantic retiring in 1998. He served in the Army and Army Reserves. He was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of Bergenfield Lodge 1477 B.P.O.E. (1974-75), Northeast NJ District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler (1978-79), NJ State Elks Trustee (1979-85), Past President of NJ State Elks Association (1985-86), Grand Lodge Government Relations Committee, Grand Lodge Activities Committee, Past Chairman Grand Lodge Board of Trustees (1999-2000) and Past Grand Exalted Ruler (National President) (2001-2002). The first volunteer Probation Officer on a drug related case in Bergen County, he coached Little League, PAL Pony League Baseball, was a member of the Jaycees, served on the Bergenfield Board of Health, was vice chairman of the Zoning Board of Adjustment, a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and the Int'l Right-of-Way Assoc. Beloved husband of Lynda Mayer (nee Erb) for 46 yrs. Devoted father of James and his wife Susan , Lori and her husband Terence DeRosa, and David Mayer. Dear brother of Janet and her husband Andrew Komisar. Loving grandfather of Rachel and Christian Mayer and Hailey DeRosa. Also survived by many other family members and relatives. Funeral service at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield on Monday at 10AM. Interment Geo. Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Visiting Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the NJ Elks Special Children's Committee/Camp Moore would be appreciated.
