Beatrice M. James

Beatrice M. James (nee Bostwick), 99, on December 26, 2007 of Bergenfield since 1916. Born in Union Hill, the daughter of the late John Kraft Bostwick and Elnora Chanberlain, she graduated from Washington School in 1921, Dumont High School in 1925 and received her NJ State Librarian Certification in 1930. She was the one and only Librarian of the Bergenfield Free Public Library for 46 yrs and served as Library Director for 16 yrs. She was a charter member and Past President of the Junior Womens Club of Bergenfield, a charter member, Past President and Life Member of the Contemporary Womens Club of Bergenfield, an Honorary Member of the Friends of the Bergenfield Library, a member of Zonta Int'l and Past President of the Teaneck-Bergenfield Chapter, founder of the American Library Assoc. Coretta Scott King Awards, a member Past President and Archivist of the New Jersey Library Assoc., former Director of the Bergenfield Civil Defense Council, member of the Bergenfield Emergency Management Council, member and Elder of Clinton Avenue Reformed Church, Life member of the Englewood Hospital Chaplaincy Committee, Trustee of the Bergenfield Museum Society, served on the Advisory Board of the Board of Education, member of the Public Relations Committee of the Board of Education, was the "mover" that resulted in the new library building to better serve the residents of Bergenfield from 1960-1968, was responsible for the publication of the History of Bergenfield-"The Hugenot Settlement of Schraalenburgh" written by Adrian Leiby for the Bergenfield 75th Anniversary in 1964., founder and organizer of the Bergenfield Historical Society, now the Bergenfield Museum Society and member and Parlimentarian of the Bergenfield Chamber of Commerce serving on its Board of Directors for countless terms. Beloved wife of the late Edward A. James. Dear sister of the late Donald W. (and his wife the late Florence)Bostwick. Dear aunt of Joan E. Bostwick and John Scott (and his wife Alyce) Bostwick. Loving great aunt of Chelsea Smeltz, Jessica Reitz and William Bostwick and Brandon and Jason Mashia. Great great Aunt of Olivia and Griffin Smeltz and Haley Reitz. The funeral will leave Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave. Bergenfield on Monday at 9:30AM for the funeral service at Clinton Avenue Reformed Church, Bergenfield at 10AM. Interment Hackensack Cemetery, Hackensack. The family will receive friends Saturday and Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Clinton Avenue Reformed Church Endowment Fund which she founded. .
