Carmen Cassar (nee Vassallo) of Little Falls (formerly Dumont & Bergenfield) passed away on July 15^th, 2023, at the age of 79. Carmen was born August 22, 1943 in Birkirkara, Malta to Carmel and Mary Vassallo (deceased). The Vassallo family came to United States in August of 1952 and settled in the Bronx, NY and later moved to Astoria, NY.  She attended and graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology. She took those skills and worked for PatchKraft, Mfg. and Sumersault as a designer and patternmaker of infants bedding for over 20 years.  At the age of 21 Carmen married the love of her life John M. Cassar on May 8, 1965 and she remained devoted to her husband even after his passing 34 years ago.

Carmen enjoyed the company of her family and friends and given the chance, she loved cooking for them. Nobody ever left her house hungry or emptyhanded. In particular, she loved baking an array of Christmas cookies that would rival any bakery. Nothing gave her greater pleasure than to share those magnificent trays with those she loved. She took great pride and pleasure in creating beautiful infant bedding crib sets for family and friends’ new arrivals. She enjoyed music from the 1950’s and loved to dance. She had a true passion for Broadway musicals and a night at the opera her entire life.

Carmen is survived by her children Liza Van Curen and her husband Timothy, Michael and his wife Linda, and Christina Lipinski and her husband Christian. She was grandmother to Jordyn, Kaitlyn, Melissa Cassar and Brinkley Lipinski. She was the younger sister of Lawrence Vassallo (deceased) and older sister of Joseph and Michael Vassallo.
