Catherine Murphy

Catherine Cecilia Murphy, nee Lamb, 93 of Bergenfield went to Heaven on November 19, 2013. Catherine was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was born February 5, 1920 in Greenwich Village. She graduated from St. Barnabas Catholic High School in 1938 and attended the Grace Institute. Catherine then worked for the New York Central Railroad until 1946. After moving to New Jersey to raise her family she returned to work, first part then full time, working for Washington Garage and New American Library as a bookkeeper. Upon retirement she and her husband enjoyed many trips together and time spent with family. She was predeceased by her husband Vincent Murphy and sister Eleanor Lamb. Catherine leaves behind four children, Kathy (Bob) Banholzer, Robert (Sara) Murphy, Stephen Murphy, and Patricia (Daryl) Murphy. She also leaves seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren and her sister Grace Benson and husband David. Viewing will be Friday, November 22 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 S. Washington Ave., Bergenfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist RC Church, Bergenfield, Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 10:00 am.
