Edward S. Sluka, (Big Ed), 86, on August 27, 2012 of New Milford. Born in Jersey City, he was a foreman for the American Can Co. in Jersey City and Hoboken for 40 yrs. A Navy Veteran of WW II, he was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church for over 50 Yrs. Devoted husband of the late Lorraine Davis Sluka. Beloved father of Diane Jensen and her husband Al, Susan Dzamba, Nancy Hillman and her husband Brian, Marianne Murtha and her husband Brian, Robin Brunck and her husband Greg, Julie Stadulis and her husband Tommy and the late Lynn Wadlow and her husband Bob. Dear brother of his twin sister Sr. Amelia Therese and predeceased by siblings Jane Badach, Sr. Mary Cordelia, Amy Juchiewicz, Stephen, Michael and Joseph Sluka. Devoted and loving grandfather of Eddie & Gosia, Katie, Kristy, Kathleen & Gentle, Danielle, Jack, Mike, Jessica, Nicole, Steven, Courtney, Bill, Gregory, Jenna, Julie, Joey, Zack, Jake and Luke and great grandfather of Eddie. He was a loving father figure to Michele Baskiewicz and Denise Randazzo. His greatest joy was his honey, Lorraine, and his seven daughters, lovingly referred to as Eddie's Girls. "Poppy" cherished time spent with his grandchildren and extended family. He was an active volunteer for many charities including the Dominican Cloistered Sisters, Missionary Sisters of Our lady of Africa, the MS Society and many others. Following his retirement he enjoyed teaching about Native American Culture to school children and scouts. Poppy loved cooking great meals for everyone. All will gather at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave. Bergenfield on Thursday at 10AM for the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Oradell at 11AM. Interment Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Tenafly. Visiting Wednesday 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa, c/o Sr. Amelia Therese, 47 W.
