Francis George Wirth, Jr

WIRTH, Francis George, Jr. was born in New Milford, NJ on May 11, 1928 to Adelaide B. Wirth and Francis G. Wirth, Sr. He had three sisters: Milette, Carolyn, and Ruth. Frank worked as an auto mechanic for over 40 years. On June 4, 1949, he married Amelia Carlough. Frank was a sergeant in the National Guard during the 1950s and 60s. He and his wife, Amy, had one daughter, Cathy. Frank Wirth was very involved in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Bergenfield, NJ. He was an usher and religious education teacher for over 20 years. Frank volunteered as a Vacation Bible School teacher, and he used to play a part in the church's Tenebrae service every Lent. Frank, or "Gumpies," as his grandchildren affectionately called him, was a real family man. He was always there to babysit his grandchildren, and he came to support them in all of their activities while they were growing up. He also was extremely helpful and handy doing work around the house, and he loved taking the family dog for a walk. In addition, after retiring, Frank continued to volunteer at St. John's, as well as working as a school bus aide. Francis' wife Amy died of cancer on March 16, 1991. After many years of being a widower and living alone, in the summer of 2003, Frank found love again and moved to Florida to be with Jean Hacker. Frank and Jean got married on June 3, 2004. Francis G. Wirth, Jr. passed away on March 25, 2011. He will be missed by many. Left to mourn him are his daughter, Cathy, and her husband Gary Wada; his two grandchildren, Kimmy and Michael Wada, his widow, Jean Hacker Wirth, and his sister, Carolyn Monbleau. Memorial service at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 128 No. Washington Ave., Bergenfield on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 9:30 AM. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hackensack.
