George Movesian

George (Bumper) Movesian, 81, on September 29, 2012 of Bergenfield. Born in Niagara Falls, NY. He graduated from the University of Buffalo with his doctorate in early childhood education. He served the Niagara Falls School District for 6 yrs. teaching the 3rd, 5th and 6th grades. He moved from teaching in elementary schools to teaching College level believing he could reach more children by preparing future educators. He was a Professor for Lehman College, Bronx, NY for over 30 yrs. where he served as Department Chairman of Early Childhood Education. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1951-1952. He was a mainstay member of the Bergenfield-Dumont Rotary Club for over 37 yrs. A Paul Harris Fellow, he served as chairman of their Semi-Annual Fruit Sale Fundraiser for over 32 yrs, raising over $120, 000 for scholarships for local high school students. An Eagle Scout he was a self-made man from humble roots. A generous and caring person he was frugal with himself, but was very generous to others. He was passionate about golf and his vegetable garden and also enjoyed bowling and playing cards. Devoted husband of Patricia M. Movesian (nee Purpuse). Beloved father of Michael and Matthew Movesian. Dear brother of Carol Moomjian, Shirlie Haig and the late Kaiser and Sam Movesian. Also survived by beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral service at Northern Valley Evangelical Free Church, 75 Stivers St., Cresskill on Thursday at 10 AM. Visiting at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9PM. Interment George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
