Geraldine Ruth Smith

SMITH, Geraldine Ruth, a lifelong resident of Bergenfield, died on December 3, 2013. She worked in retail for Marshall Fields, Arnold Constable and most recently for B. Altman & Co. in Paramus until the store closed in 1989. Employee friends at B. Altman, including best friend Claire Wadsworth, continue to gather on a regular basis to the present day. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lyle H. Smith, and brothers, George W. Sieber, Jr., and William Sieber. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Katz (Eugene) of Memphis, Tennessee, and Joan Lupardo, of Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, and her beloved companion of 13 years, Fred Schierenbeck. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Corinne McLaughlin and Glen Friese of Memphis, Robert Lupardo, Jr. of River Vale and Richard Lupardo (Rita) of Park Ridge, and six great grandchildren, Madeleine McLaughlin, and Brennan and Jack Lupardo, and Jenna, Corinne and Christine Lupardo. Services will be held at the Church of the Atonement, 97 Highwood Ave; Engle St., Tenafly on Saturday, December 7 at 12:30 p.m. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. The family wishes to express its gratitude to the Holy Name Hospice team and to Adrine MacIntosh for the exceptional care given in her last days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Atonement or a charity of the donor's choice.
