Jack R. Thurber of Bergenfield, on September 3, 2008. Born in Charleston, SC. Son of the late Charles H. and Marion S. Thurber, Jack was a graduate of College of Charleston with advanced degrees from both Fordham and Columbia University. He was an Army veteran, serving in Europe with the 174th Field Artillery Battalion during WWII. Jack began his career at the New York Public Library, moved on to become the Director of the Sprain Brook Branch of the Yonkers Public Library and then served as the Director of the Tenafly Public Library. He was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, a member of Bergenfield Memorial Post #6467 V.F.W., and a former member of the Tenafly Rotary Club. He was predeceased by his beloved wife M. Constance (Connie) Thurber (nee:Luby) and granddaughter Jane Thurber. He is survived by his loving children Michael of Melrose, MA, Paul of Glen Rock, NJ, John of La Grande, OR, Robert of New York, NY, Anne Gumbs of Perth Amboy, NJ and Mary of Franklin Lakes, NJ. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. The funeral will leave Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave. Bergenfield on Monday at 9:30AM for the Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Bergenfield at 10:00 AM. Interment Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ. Visiting Sunday 2-7 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Lung Association or to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, 31 Evans Terminal Road, Hillside, NJ, 07205.
