John Chamberlin

September 10, 1921 — August 1, 2009

CHAMBERLIN, John W. "Jack", a very proud retired NYC firefighter, responded to his final alarm on August 1, 2009. Jack served with the NYC Fire Department from 1951 to 1972, days which he often described as his "best". He was an active participant in the St George Association - NYFD, and held office in that organization. After his NYFD retirement he worked for PNC bank until 1985, at which time he retired fully to care for his loving wife Lorraine C., whose death preceded his by 10 years. Jack was also actively involved in Boy Scouts, being a Troop Master for Troop 180 in Bergenfield, where he lived until moving to California in 2004. He was also actively involved in his church, St. Luke's in Haworth as a senior vestry member. As a young man Jack served his country as a United States Marine during WW2 in the South Pacific, participating in the Battle of Tarawa in 1943. He is survived by his son, Keith J. Chamberlin, MD, and his grandchildren Sara, Zach and Emma. The funeral will leave Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 S. Washington Avenue, Friday morning at 9:30 for the funeral service at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Haworth, at 10. Entombment Ferncliff Mausoleum, Hartsdale, NY. Visiting Thursday 6-9pm.
