John J. Concannon (Jack) of Bergenfield, NJ, passed away at home on March 21, 2022. He was the loving husband of Mary (Hegarty) Concannon. Jack will be missed by his children and their spouses: Mary Anne and spouse Glenn Gorman, John and spouse Elizabeth, Theresa and spouse Bob McBey, Jimmy and spouse Moira and Jacqueline and spouse Pat Ryan. Jack was the cherished grandfather of Kyle, Julia, Vanessa, George, Alexander, Jack, Andrew, Ashley, Ryan, James, Colin, Devin and Emma.
Jack was born on April 5, 1933 in the South Bronx to parents Margaret (Maggie) and James Concannon (Big Jimmy). He was predeceased by his big brother, James Thomas. Growing up in the South Bronx, Jack graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School. He enlisted in the Air Force and served for 4 years. Jack meet Mary Ellen Hegarty at a dance in Manhattan. They were married shortly after in November 1959. Their 5 children quickly followed, hence the move from Queens to Bergenfield.
After 36 years of dedicated work, Jack retired from the New York City Transit Authority (The TA). While there, he took on the added responsibility of serving as a board member for the Empirt Credit Union for 22 years. Jack was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church in Bergenfield. He served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. John’s and at Holy Name Hospital.
Upon retirement from the TA, Jack enjoyed being at home with Mary and visiting friends and family. He will be missed and remembered fondly.
Celebration of Life Services will include the viewing at Riewerts Memorial Home in Bergenfield on Wednesday, March 23 from 4:00-8:00pm. Funeral mass will be at St. John the Evangelist Church in Bergenfield on Thursday, March 24 at 10:00am. Interment at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus following the mass.
