John M. Tsimis

John M. Tsimis, 97, of Bergenfield died peacefully on January 27, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. John was born on October 10, 1916 in the village of Parparia on the Greek island of Chios. He is predeceased by his parents Michael and Despina Tsimis and his sister Sophia Parikos. John left Parparia for America at a young age living in various places ranging from New York to Ohio to San Francisco. His studies at Cal Berkeley were interrupted by his military service during WWII.

John and his lovely wife Stella owned Chante Coiffures, a hair salon in New Milford, and worked side by side from 1962-1999. In their retirement they enjoyed annual trips to Greece until John's dementia and deteriorating health forced them to end. John is survived by his beloved wife Stella who cared for him until his last breath; his son Dr. Michael Tsimis and wife Donna; his daughter Denise and husband Brian Colleran; and grandchildren Stephanie and John Tsimis and Jack, Katie and Julia Colleran. John's family was always a great source of pride and joy for him. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law for whom he cared deeply. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Philothea Philoptochos Society in care of The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. John the Theologian, 353 East Clinton Ave., Tenafly, NJ 07670. Visiting on Wednesday from 4-9 PM at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave. Bergenfield. Funeral Service at St. John the Theologian Greek Cathedral, 353 E. Clinton Ave., Tenafly on Thursday at 11:30 AM. Interment Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
