John C. Weldin

John C. Weldin was born on June 30, 1923 in Wilmington Delaware. He attended the University of Delaware until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1942. He served with the Marines in the Pacific on active duty until 1946 and was a member of the Marine Corps Reserve until 1951. In 1946, he joined the Marine Corps League and was a former commandant of the Bergen County chapter. At his death, he was the longest continuous member of the Marine Corps League in the State of New Jersey. In 1947, he married Margaret (Peggy) Quinn and also received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Delaware. He did graduate work in electrical engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology. A Professional Engineer, Mr Weldin was a nationally known expert in elevator and escalator engineering issues. He was president of the Maintenance Company, an elevator contracting firm in New York City and later was the CEO of a privately owned conglomerate. In 1981, he started John C Weldin PEPA, an engineering consulting firm. During its 31 year existence Mr. Weldin's firm serviced every housing authority in New Jersey and housing authorities in other states along with other clients. Mr. Weldin was also Chief Engineer for the Chicago Housing Authority in the early 1980's. He was the engineer hired by the Port Authority to design and manage the installation of the elevator banks destroyed in the 1993 attack at the World Trade Center. Mr. Weldin was a resident of Bergenfield, NJ since 1952 and raised his family up there. He was member and former Trustee of St. John the Evangelist Parish and was an active participant in numerous activities for the parish. Predeceased by his wife Margaret in 2006, he is survived by 5 children: son John Jr. and his spouse Patrice of Bergenfield, son Thomas and his spouse Jeannie of New Milford, daughter Kelly Fiume and her spouse Steve of Miami, FL, daughter Eileen Krenn and her spouse Tom of Ridgewood, NJ and son Daniel of New Milford, NJ. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Brian, Pamela, Eric, Christopher and Heather Weldin; Cassandra and Jesse Fiume; and Caitlin and Meaghan Krenn. Visiting Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave. Bergenfield. All will gather at the funeral home on Saturday at 9 AM for the Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Bergenfield at 10 AM. Interment George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
