Louise M. Kraus, nee Mitchell of Bergenfield formerly of Weehawken/Hoboken. Beloved wife of the late Frank W. Kraus.(1996}. Loving mother of Kathy Madsen and her husband Steve. Loving grandmother of William Kraus, Jr., and Melissa Kraus of Middle Village, NY. Also survived by son, William Kraus, Sr, and his children Mackenzie and Madison of Keller Texas. Louise was a graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary's School of Nursing in Hoboken. She received her Baccalaureate degree from Jersey City State College. Louise was a strong advocate of nursing and care of the patient. She served in numerous first capacities first at St. Mary's, then North Hudson Hospital in Weehawken, which moved and became Palisades General Hospital in North Bergen. She served as secretary for the American Nurses Association Constituency #7 for several years. While at North Hudson assisted in the development of the North Hudson Nurses Association, with her colleagues planned numerous fund raising events for the purpose of enhancing education programs for the staff nurses. There were several 'first' in her nursing career, assisted in the development of the first Central Supply dept. at St. Mary's, developed the 'first Employee Health Dept. at North Hudson, Became the first Infection Control Practitioner at North Hudson/Palisades General, developed the first Quality Control program at PGH, became the First Safety Officer, her Environment of Care program received a special commendation from the reguliltory agency JCAH and last but not least she was the first Risk Manager at Palisades Medical Center. She retired from PMC, but did not retire, She became secretary of the Bergenfield Garden Club, joined several organizations, St. John's Golden Age Club, St. John's Bereavement Program, became a volunteer at Palisades Medical Center, a member of the Palisades Med. Ctr. Auxiliary, Also served on the Academy of the Sacred heart DASH program and the Bergen County Division of Senior Citizens Advisory and Health Committees. She served as Clerk/Secretary to the Bergenfield Advisory Barrier-Free Committee. She developed a passion for golf, having taken lessons at the local high-school, attended a golf Program in Pinehurst, North Carolina, where she was proud to meet the legendary 'Peggy Kirk Bell'. She was also quite proud of her 'TWO HOLE IN ONE' accomplishments, She was member of the Executive Women's Golf Assoc. and the Women's Golf Assoc. of NJ. She was a member of the Paramus Women's Golfers Tuesday League. She volunteered several years at the LPGA both at New York and Montclair, NJ. She also volunteered for the PGA at Ridgewood Country Club. And she loved "ROCKY" her favorite puppy.
