Mary Ellen Harrington (nee Daly), age 71, of Cresskill, NJ succumbed to her cancer fight and passed away April 9, 2008. At the time of her death she was surrounded by her adoring family. Mary Ellen was born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ and is a graduate of Saint Benedictine Academy and the Washington School for Secretaries. She was a resident of Cresskill for 43 years. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Nora Daly. Mary Ellen is survived by James, her beloved husband of almost 49 years; devoted mother of Jim Harrington and his wife Mary Jane of Hewitt, NJ, Kathleen Harrington of Long Branch, NJ and Colonel Joseph Patrick Harrington and his wife Nancy of Alexandria, VA; Cherished grandmother of Shawn, Liam and Aidan and dear sister of Kathleen Sorge and her husband Peter of Berlin, NJ. She was employed at Penetone Chemicals as a secretary for 14 years. She was an active member of the Bergen Irish Social Club and Cresskill Senior Citizen Club. Mary Ellen was a homemaker and a parishioner of St. Therese Church. For nearly 40 years she could be found working Cresskill's election boards or supporting any number of activities her children were involved in. The funeral will leave Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave. Bergenfield on Saturday at 9:00 AM for the Funeral Liturgy at St. Therese R.C. Church, Cresskill at 9:30 AM. Interment Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah. The family will receive friends Thursday 7-9 and Friday 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
