Patrick J. Hegarty

Patrick J. Hegarty, 84, of Dumont passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 30, 2021. He was the loving husband and is survived by Rita (McCarty), his devoted wife of 63 years. Pat is also survived by his four loving children, Patrick of NY, Kevin and wife, Susan of Wayne, NJ, Kathleen Velazquez and her husband, Leo of Sarasota, FL, and Mary Ellen Breun and her husband, Chris of Dumont, NJ. Patrick was the loving grandfather to 6 adoring grandchildren: Jason and Kelliann Velazquez, Eric, Shannon and Tyler Breun, and Maura Hegarty and he will be greatly missed. He was also a beloved son, brother, cousin, and uncle, with many cherished friends.

Born in Bronx, NY, Pat retired from the federal government in 1992 following 35 years of service with the United States Postal Service. Twenty-one years later, he retired from the Dumont, NJ Board of Education. Pat is a Life Member and former Chief of the Dumont Volunteer Fire Department, and a Life Member of the NJ State Firemen's Association.

Family and friends may visit at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 South Washington Avenue, Bergenfield, NJ on Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11am on Friday, November 5, 2021 at St. Mary's RC Church, Dumont. Cremation will be private.
