Pilar E. Perez

Pilar Pérez of Bergenfield, 87, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021. She fought a valient battle with both cancer and dementia. Beloved wife of the late Armando Perez. Loving mother of Laura Perez and her husband Hernando Landazabal and Ailime Perez Daddazio and her husband William Daddazio. Cherished grandmother of Tyler Daddazio. Pilar emigrated from Havana, Cuba in 1965, fleeing the communist regime that engulfed the island she treasured. She fell in love with the United States and made the U.S. her home for 56 years. Teaching was her calling. As a Bilingual and ESL teacher in the Englewood Public School System, she proudly taught for over 30 years and adored working with "her" children. She retired from Englewood’s Lincoln School in 1999 with many fond memories that she would happily recount to loved ones for many years. Pilar was an avid reader who enjoyed visiting the Bergenfield library every week. She took great pride in her grandson and loved picking him up from school everyday in her little red Honda. Pilar's love of travel took her to Europe and Greece, fulfilling lifetime dream destinations, as well as Florida and the West Coast. You could find her every Saturday at the mall shopping to her hearts content or tending to her prized roses in her front garden. Pilar became a member of the Golden Agers, a seniors group of St. Mary's Church in Closter, where she relished in the activities and friendships.
In her later years, she enjoyed taking car rides with her daughters and her loyal aide and friend, Carmen Coimbra, and admiring the colorful flowers and plants she would see along the way. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Viewing for family and friends on Sunday, November 21, 2021 3 pm to 7 pm at Riewerts Memorial Home 187 S. Washington Avenue Bergenfield, NJ 07621 All will gather at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church 20 Legion Place Closter, NJ 07624 on Monday, November 22, 2021 at 10:45 am for the funeral mass at 11 am.
