Sigrid Elizabeth Bonilla

Sigrid (Betsy) E. Bonilla, 61, daughter of Charles F. Bonila and Sigrid Isabel Bonilla passed away peacefully this past Thursday, July 19, at her home in Bergenfield. Betsy, who has been mentally impaired since childhood, has been cared for by her devoted caregiver and companion, Maria Alava, for the past 44 years. Betsy grew up in Tenafly. Her late father. Carlos was a world-renown professor of Chemical and Nuclear Engineering at Columbia University. Her late mother, Isabel was a member of the Tenafly Garden Club and helped in the original planning of the Davis Johnson Park and Gardens. Betsy has been attending the Ridgefield Park Adult Training Center since 1988. Betsy's favorite pastimes were collecting and sorting magazines and daily trips in the car. Betsy is survived by her brother, Laurence H. Bonilla, 67, of Red Bank, New Jersey.
