Thomas Abraham Maloof

Thomas Abraham Maloof passed away on February 27, 2025. He was born in 1936 and is predeceased by his wife, Diane (née Manzo) and his son, Michael. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Haas and her husband, Jeffrey, their two children, Stef and Danielle, and his daughter-in-law Susan (née Prince) Maloof. The oldest of four children, Tom is predeceased by his sister May and is survived by his sister Carol Feigle, and his brother Richard and wife, Dorothy.

Tom grew up in Bergenfield and his family lived within a few blocks of many of his cousins. Growing up, his brother and sisters were very close to their cousins and enjoyed many large family gatherings. He attended Bergenfield High School, where he played violin in the orchestra and bass drum in the marching band. He was proud to have marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade under the direction of Dr. Bernard Baggs. Following high school, Tom attended Seton Hall University and upon graduation began working as an insurance salesman. In 1959, he married the love of his life, Diane Manzo, and they decided to move to the town where they both grew up to start and raise their family.

Tom decided to take the Civil Service exam, becoming a mail carrier and later a supervisor for the US Postal Service in Cresskill, a job that he held until retirement. He held other various jobs both during his postal career and following his retirement, determined to provide a comfortable life for his family.

Tom loved listening to swing music, especially that of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and he and Diane enjoyed dancing whenever they could. They also enjoyed spending time at their home in the Pocono Mountains during the summers, where they would often host “Cousins Days.” He was a huge fan of his wife’s abundant gourmet meals.

Tom became a grandfather in 2002 and again in 2007, and was smitten by his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching TV and listening to music with them, and he loved to bring them toys and coloring books. His favorite moments with his grandchildren, however, were when he would pick blueberries with them at the Pocono house and enjoy eating the delicious blueberry muffins that Diane would bake when they returned to the house. That would inevitably be followed by a day trip to the Claws and Paws animal park where he and Diane loved to walk with the grandkids to look at the animals and enjoy the shows.

Tom was heartbroken when Diane passed in 2012, but he continued to show his deep devotion to his grandchildren, attending concerts, rock climbing competitions and softball games as they progressed through school.

Tom was a loyal and faithful member of the Free and Accepted Masons as well as the Order of the Eastern Star. He was twice elected Master of the Daniels Lodge in Bergenfield, and he was a Tyler for the third district. In 2018, Tom was recognized as a Tyler Emeritus at his Mother lodge, The Alpine Tilden Tenakill Lodge #77. He was also proud of his Lebanese heritage and was a longtime member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon.
