McGovern, William J. (Bill), 79, of Bergenfield passed away on November 9, 2007. Born March 3, 1928, he lived on 187th St., NYC the son of the late Patrick and Catherine McGovern. He attended St. Rose of Lima School, Washington Hts., NY and was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Bill worked for A&P stores in NY for 30 years retiring in 1982. He was actively involved with the Boy Scouts and received numerous awards for service. For 17 yrs. he lectured at mass for St. John the Evangelist Church. Bill spent 31 yrs. as a member of Alcoholics Anonymous working with many groups throughout NJ; Substance Abuse Foundation and Addiction Prevention Working Group to name a few. His passion for helping those in need can be seen by the many friends he has made through the program. He showed such kindness and undying friendship to others. His door was always open to those in need which made Bill such a very special person to all. Predeceased by his wife Peggy (nee Fahey) in 2000, he was a wonderful father to William P. of Wantage, NJ, Debra of Morgantown, WV, Patrice of Los Angeles, CA, Maureen of Co. Clare, Ireland, Margaret of Waldwick, NJ and Michael of Waldwick, NJ. Loved grandfather to 19 grandchildren. Loved by his extended family of daughter and sons in law, nieces, nephews and many friends. The funeral will leave Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave. Bergenfield on Tuesday at 10:30AM for the Funeral Liturgy at St. John the Evangelist Church, Bergenfield at 11AM. The family will receive friends Monday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Interment George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
