Zeses Manakas, the son of Theodore and Anastasia, was born in Nashua, New Hampshire on January 14, 1925 and died December 18, 2009 of a loving worn out heart and his recent struggle with Alzheimer's disease. He resided in Bergenfield, NJ with his family since 1967. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Nicki Manakas, his sister Julia Getsos, sons Ted (Ellen), Van (Patience), grandchildren, Theo, Gus, Maggie and extended family and friends who are saddened by his passing but enriched and grateful for having known and loved this sweet man. Zeses served in the Navy during the second World War on a sub-chaser, married Nicki Christie on April 23, 1950 and worked professionally as a furrier in New York City, a perfume chemist for Roure, Bertrand Dupont in NJ and finished his working life as a traffic crossing guard for an elementary school in Bergenfield, NJ. He was warm, authentic and engaging and will be missed by all. The funeral will leave Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 South Washington Ave, Bergenfield, NJ on Wednesday morning at 9:15 for the funeral service at St. John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church, Tenafly at 10. Visiting Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9pm. Interment George Washignton Memorial Park, Paramus.
